Jerrold Yam (b. 1991)
BIOGRAPHY
Jerrold Yam is a Law graduate from University College London. The author of three poetry collections, Intruder (Ethos Books, Singapore, 2014), Scattered Vertebrae (Math Paper Press, Singapore, 2013) and Chasing Curtained Suns (Math Paper Press, Singapore, 2012), he is named by the National Arts Council as one of the "New Voices of Singapore 2014".
Yam was nominated for the Forward and Pushcart Prizes, in 2015 and 2012 respectively. He was highly commended in the Poetry Book Society National Student Poetry Competition 2014, and runner-up at the same competition in 2013. He won first prize and three honourable mentions at the National University of Singapore Creative Writing Competition 2011, and first prize at the British Council History and the City Competition 2011.
His work has been featured across twenty countries in more than a hundred publications, including Axon, Mascara Literary Review, Prairie Schooner, Third Coast, Wasafiri and Washington Square Review. His poems are anthologised in A Luxury We Cannot Afford (2015), Kulit: Asian Literature for the Language Classroom (2014), Manoa (2014) and Mildly Erotic Verse (2013). His poetry has been translated into Mandarin and Spanish.
Yam was a featured author at the Interrobang Book Fair (2013), London Book Fair (2013), Ledbury Poetry Festival (2014), SEA Arts Fest (2014) and Singapore Writers Festival (2013, 2014). He was an invited speaker at Southbank Centre’s Festival of Love 2014 and Singapore Day 2014. He has also spoken at local educational institutions, such as the National University of Singapore.
